Mr. Redcarpet's Dirt

Man about town on the inside track to HOLLYWOOD!

Andy Garcia's Weekend

What was Andy Garcia doing over the weekend?  I'm glad you asked because I'm going to tell you.  I caught him at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel (the "Pretty Woman" hotel) watching the Laker Game on TV at a charity event.  The Lakers won that game and now go on to the Western Conference Championship Series with the San Antonio Spurs.

In case you didn't know:  The Emmys and Oscars will now be held at the Nokia Theater.

Subject: Fw: Oscar Saturday

"If you are caught taking photographs with your cell phone, you will be arrested immediately."

...The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences

Need nothing more be said...at least to me, anyway.  I was told they have been making at least one arrest per day.  A production assistant told me she personally witnessed three arrests.

No celebs to speak of at today's rehearsal...just Jon Stewart.

All I can say about the set is columns and rings and giant Oscars.

Oscar Alert!

Just checking in to remind you that I'll be at the rehearsal today (Saturday) looking for some dirt to dish out exclusively to Mr. Redcarpet fans.  I'll try to get some pics but security is always tight at the Oscars and the Academy doesn't take kindly to people who don't follow the rules.  I had a friend last year who was ARRESTED for trying to crash the Governors Ball.  His court appearance is just coming up in March.

This is What got Bleeped on The Emmys

I understand a couple of things got bleeped on the Prime Time Emmy Show last night.  Since I was there, let me try to fill in the blanks for you.

First, Ray Romano made a joke about TV wife Patricia Heaton sleeping with another man after all their years together.  His reference was to a new show she is doing with Kelsey Grammar.  I'm sorry I can't give you an exact quote.  On the other hand, I don't know exactly what was bleeped either.  Ray went on to say something like how can you do that after we had two TV children...or...Come on, we had two TV children...something like that.

I can give you a quote for the second bleep.  Sally Fields said in her acceptance speech....after the ..."I forgot what I was going to say......errrrr.....uuuhhhh...If mothers ruled the world, there would be no goddamn wars."  I think it ended with "in the first place," but I'm not sure.

Censors also bleeped an expletive from Katherine Heigl, but I don't even remember her winning an award, let alone what she said.   Do you really care what kind of letter bomb she dropped?

Now where do you get that kind of inside information other than from Mr. Redcarpet?  "Oh, maybe from a million other sources on the Internet, Mr. R.," you say.  OK, but you didn't have to Google it or check a milion other sources.  All you had to do was check your favorite source for Hollywood news, Hollywood is Talking.

After all the hoopla I went to the FOX party at Spago (Wolfgang Puck's place) in Beverly Hills.  Jack Bauer or the Idol crew weren't there (I did see them earlier at the Show) but that didn't stop me from enjoying an alcoholic beverage, Alaskan crab legs, and sampling every dessert on the dessert table...and there were LOTS of choices.

59th Emmy Awards - Rehearsal Saturday

I have one thing to say, "Theater in the round!

Remember the Who Wants to Become a Millionaire set?  Well, that's what the set of 59th Emmy Awards looks like.  The stage is round and all the Presenters, Nominees, and their guests will be seated around it.

For the first time since I can remember, the host of the show did not appear for the final rehearsal.  What is up with you, Mr. Ryan Seacrestfallen?

This year's Show will be a lot more entertaining than in recent past.  The headline performers are The Jersey Boys (Sopranos Cast) and Christina Aguilera.

If you're a Sopranos fan, you won't want to miss this show.  Just about every cast member and recurring cast member will be there.

Dannielynn Smith, who's your daddy? Mr. R knows.

OK...I'm not saying this is true and I have no evidence to substantiate it BUT...

I have it from a source who heard first hand from a Hollywood producer in the loop that...hold on to your hats...remember, it could only happen in Chinatown...the father of Anna Nicole's daughter, Dannielynn, is

Anna Nicole Smith's son DANIEL!!!!!

This would make Anna Nicole Smith Dannielynn's mother and grandmother.  Anna Nicole Smith's mother would be Dannielynn's grandmother AND great grandmother.

I just mention it as something out there.  When it headlines the Enquirer, remember where you heard it first.

EXCLUSIVE Kiefer Sutherland Photos

Mr. Sutherland was in Atlanta recently when these photos were taken.

This is the big week and I'll be there for the main event.  If I have to tell you what that is, what are you doing on this blog?  I hope to get up a few pics of the pre-show hoopla by Thursday.

GONE WITH THE WIND was filmed in the South...yeah, SOUTH California!

Season's Greetings
Tara, the famous plantation depicted in Gone With the Wind, is not in Atlanta,
or Georgia, or anywhere close to the South, for that matter. Coincidentally, I'm in Atlanta for the Holidays
but I took this picture a few days ago in Culver City, CA, just 10 minutes from my home in Los Angeles. Tara is part
of Culver Studios which is a couple of blocks from Sony Studios, formerly known as MGM Studios (for those of you old
enough to remember).

I hope everyone has a GREAT Holiday Season
and a happy and healthy 2007.

Chainsaw Award Photos...as promised

Chainsaw Awards

Last week I had the indistinct pleasure of attending the Chainsaw Awards.  The Show airs Sunday, Oct. 22nd on Fuse TV at 9:30.  Don’t worry if you missed it, I checked the listings, Fuse is replaying it almost every day this week.  Check your local listings.  I suppose if you’re really into Horror Flicks, you’ll enjoy the show, but I found it rather boring.  There was very little entertainment value in the show and the laughs were far and few in-between.  It was hosted by Jamie Kennedy.  Is he funny?  I mean somebody tell me if he’s funny because I don’t hear anything funny coming out of his mouth.

This show is so far down the alphabet list to attend, Kathy Griffin turned it down.  To give you an idea of how tacky this show is, here are the types of people who showed up.  Laura Linney and Samuel L. Jackson were nominees and they were nowhere to be found.  Porn star Ron Jeremy and The Girls Next Door were there.  Catch my drift?  Don’t forget, I was there.  What does that tell you?  A guest in the audience who didn’t quite fit the mold was JENNA FISCHER from The Office.  I think she was there because of a spousal obligation.

The Show was sleazy but the environment wasn’t.  Kudos to the people who renovated the Orpheum Theater which was the venue for the event.

I’ll post some pics later.

Emmy Sunday

You are now officially one degree of separation from KEVIN BACON.  That’s right, people!  Everyone on HIT is one degree from Kevin Bacon because I brushed shoulders with him at the Emmys.  He was walking down the aisle to his seat as I was walking up.  He escorted his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, who was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.  Mariska Hargitay won that award.  Did you know Ms. Hargitay is the daughter of Mickey Hargitay and Jayne Mansfield and was in the back seat of the car when Ms. Mansfield had her fatal accident?

For the men:  However good the Deal or No Deal models look on television, they are absolutely gorgeous in person!  I’ve got to get tickets for that show.

I kept bumping into all the Idol people throughout the night.  I ran into Paula Abdul several times.  She made a lot of trips to the lobby.  Weak kidneys?  Drinks?  Candy for the nose?   Whatever it was, she was back and forth all night.  At one point I said, “I keep running into you, don’t I?” and she just gave me a drunken glassy eyed smile and said nothing.  Something about her just wasn’t right.

Wasn’t it great seeing the Angels (not the baseball team) together again or what???  Jacqueline Smith still looks fantastic!

Chloris Leachman graciously placed her hand on my shoulder as an appreciative gesture when I congratulated her for her Emmy.

Did I PARTY afterwards?  Hey, I’m Mr. Redcarpet, aren’t I?  Flying solo, I got into the HBO party.  There were Desperate Housewives (Ricardo Chavira and Alfre Woodard) and Office people there (neither of which are on HBO) and Angelina Jolie’s father…gee…what’s his name?  I guess he’s better known to my parents’ generation.  This event was held on the grounds of the Pacific Design Center “The Blue Whale.”  The tent in which it was held was different from what I’ve seen at other parties.  This one had clear plastic walls at each end which opened things up to the nice flower landscaping done outside (the San Vicente side for you Angelenos).  The dance floor and band (DJ plus percussionists) were outside on the east end in the Pacific Design Center quad.  See HBO pics.

Emmy Rehearsal - Saturday

  Emmy Notes

  •    James Gandolfini and Edie Falco are presenters.  James was dressed just like Tony Soprano dresses around his house...a sport shirt and shorts.  Edie had her hair pulled back and no makeup.
  •    No amusing celebrity anecdotes to tell.
  •    I'll let the photos speak for themselves.
  •    There are FOUR trees in the Governors Ball ballroom.  All of them are artificial.
  •    Baby Boomers!  You'll enjoy highlights from past Emmy broadcasts that will be shown throughout the Show.
  •    Enjoy the Show!

Emmy Rehearsal - Friday

Here are a few pics from Friday's Primetime Emmy rehearsal.  I circled Conan O'Brien because you wouldn't know it was him if I didn't.  The pic at the bottom is one of about 5 trees (I didn't count 'em) in the ballroom at the Governors Ball.  The circled item is a glass chandelier hanging from the tree.

There's trouble at NBC.  You'll know what I mean right at the beginning of the show.

Check your local listings for the Creative Arts Emmys on the E Channel tonight (Saturday).

I ran into Lewis Black at Barney's Beanery in West Hollywood on Monday night.  I told him I enjoyed his comedy.  He smiled and thanked me.  Instead of being his usual angry self he was enjoying dinner with a young couple.  Black is a frequent guest on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart who hosted the Oscars.

Creative Arts Emmys

Last Saturday I was at the taping of the Creative Arts Emmys.  It airs this Saturday on E (Aug. 26th, 8 pm PDT; check your local listings).  Penn & Teller did a great job as the hosts.  They revealed a secret to an old magician standard and it’s not pulling a rabbit out of the hat.

Have you seen The Evolution of Dance?  It's the most downloaded stream on the Net and was performed live by comedian Judson Laipply at the Creatives.

I walked right by James WoodsHe’s a little taller than I expected but, man, does he have a big head!  I mean that literally.   Maybe he just has big hair, I don’t know.  His head is out of proportion with the rest of his body which is very trim.

Only a few more days to the Prime Time Emmys!

Oscar Party Report -- At Last!

OK, the Oscars are over and badda bing badda boom I'm in the Governors Ball and drinking a cocktail!  I didn't have a ticket but with the help of two colleagues, we discovered a secret entryway.  That secret will go with me to the grave or until it doesn’t work any more.  We’ll see what happens in 2007.

Not having had anything to eat for about 8 hours, I was pretty hungry.  The Governors Ball is NOT buffet style.  We…uh…didn’t think it would be a good idea to grab an empty seat at a table and wait for dinner to be served.  The only thing available was hors d'oeuvres being passed around.  Since it was almost time for dinner to be served, if I were going to get some food it had to be quick.  The only thing I could get was salmon pizza (gourmet pizza is a Wolfgang Puck specialtysee photos).  It was positively awful!  I was still hungry but ready for a second drink and to move out into the main ballroom.

People mingled in the center of the ballroom.  It seemed there were more guests there than seated at tables.  There was a dining area on each side of the dance floor.  The band was elevated about ten feet above and to the side (somewhat decipherable in the photos of George Clooney that are attached).  The first person of note I ran into was the Mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa.  I introduced myself, told him I voted for him, and that it was an honor to meet him.  He said, “No, it is an honor to meet YOU.”  Ah, the power of the constituent.  After I spoke to the Mayor, I noticed George Clooney a chairs in, talking on his cell phone.  A few moments later he was off the phone and standing alone.  I couldn’t believe that no one was at his table….not even Oscar (he had just won it for Supporting Actor in Syriana – he was only paid $350,000 for the film).  I figured I would never get an opportunity like this so I ceased the moment.  I walked up and introduced myself and he started talking to me like we were old friends.  What a sweetheart of a guy.  We both lived in Cincinnati at the same time albeit he was just starting elementary school and I was in college so we had some things in common, the main one being his Dad, Nick.  I knew his Dad as a news anchor and local TV personality.  He talked about his Dad with me as if I knew him personally.  George told me that’s who he was talking to just a few minutes ago.  People were starting to gather around us yearning for George’s attention so I graciously made my exit.  WOW!  I could not believe that I, Mr. Hollywood, just had a drink and a one on one conversation with Academy Award winning actor George Clooney like we were at a friend’s house party!  When he was talking to me, looking me straight in the eyes, I was thinking what millions of people, especially women, would give to be standing in my shoes right now.

Everything at the Governors Ball was anti climactic after that.  I wandered by Steven Spielberg a few moments later and thought…ha!...old news.  After hooking up with my friends, we made our way to the exit.  We passed Laren Bacall…ha!...VERY old news.  My friend, who is a big fan, asked for her autograph.  She said bluntly that she couldn’t be bothered.  There was a food server holding a tray of Chocolate Oscars on the way out (see photo, but the guy in photo was definitely NOT our server).  Finally, some food!

Since I teased this in my last report (remember way back in March?), I should tell you about the actress who appeared in The Show who I once kissed.  The kiss was no big deal…just a goodbye kiss when I saw her at the Oscar rehearsal.  I know her professionally outside of her career as an actress.  Her name is Jane Finstrom.  She was onstage for one of the production numbers toward the end of the show.  I remember Tom Hanks was in it but that’s all!  If I can’t remember, chances are you could care less.

We attempted to get into one more party at the Pacific Design Center (lovingly known as the Blue Whale) but security was pretty tight and we were very tired.  The spirit was willing but the flesh was weak.  It was time to pack up the tux until the Emmys.

Photos of the Chocolate Oscar, George Clooney, and canned photos of the Governors Ball are attached.

Jacqueline Bisset at the Academy

Two weeks ago I went to the Great to be Nominated series at the Academy to see Airport (the original; 1970).  There were about five actors present who appeared in the film but the most notable was Jacqueline Bisset.  Gentlemen, she still looks great.  Unfortunately, the lame photos I have of her don’t do her justice but that’s what you’re up against when you’re a discreet paparazzi taking pictures where no photography is allowed.

All the actors spoke highly of Dean Martin and what fun he was on the set.  Jacqueline Bisset said he always had a cocktail glass filled with apple juice on the rocks in his hand.

The director, George Seaton, gave strict orders not to drink alcoholic beverages at lunch time.  Jacqueline Bisset’s hair dresser talked her into having a margarita on the day they were to shoot the scene where she hits Helen Hayes. (You might recall Helen Hayes’ character was in on this ruse in an effort to grab the bomb from the unstable passenger).  Jacqueline considered this her most difficult scene in the movie. Anyway, the first margarita was so good that she had another…and another.  She was totally blitzed when she did what was considered her best acted scene in the film.  Try to find this out somewhere else on the Internet.

Angelenos, I can’t urge you enough to get over to the Academy on Monday nights for this series.  It’s only five bucks!  Check out the upcoming films.  http://www.oscars.org/events/great_to_be_nominated/august.htm   This Monday, it’s the Exorcist and Linda Blair is expected to be there.  Last week Michael York was there for Cabaret.  He looked great.  His hair looked the same as it did in the film 35 years ago.  Damn that guy!

I already have my invite to the EMMYS.  Look for those reports in a couple of weeks.

Mr. Redcarpet and an Original King of Comedy

Mr. Redcarpet will be very busy with the Emmys coming in just a couple of weeks.  Here's what I've been up to lately...

About a month ago, I was at Cedric the Entertainer’s house.  He had a
birthday party for his daughter’s grandmother.  The party was at a brand new
home and he obviously just moved in because there were open boxes spread about
the house, bare walls, and not much furniture.  The house sat on a nice size
piece of property.  There was a pool and a garden in the back and a Rolls Royce
in the front!  It was located in a gated community in the very far northwest end
of Chatsworth.  Chatsworth is in the very far northwest end of Los Angeles in
the very HOT San Fernando Valley.

This was just like a party you'd throw for your family and friends.  Ok,
maybe you wouldn't have a casino, or a caterer, or an AIR CONDITIONED tent in
the backyard to accommodate 150 guests.  But except for that…!  For music,
Cedric hooked up his Ipod to some speakers.  Now, don't tell me you'd hire a DJ
before you would try this!  There was one other celebrity at the party and that
was former NBA star John Salley.  He and I left at the same time.  Since the NBA
playoffs were going on at the time, I asked him if he were sneaking out to watch
the game.  He said, “No.  I've seen enough games.”  I laughed and I certainly
understood what he was saying.  Would you want to spend your retirement watching
people perform your old job?

I promise... the George Clooney story very SOON.  Also, look for EMMY reports coming in the next couple of weeks.
