Cruise Cut Loose

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Paramount Pictures has cut its 14-year-old ties to Tom Cruise's production company because of his off-screen behavior, the chairman of the studio's parent company told the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.
Summer Redstone says it's his "off-screen behavior" but that is media conglomerate-ese for "Losing money" and the subtext of "getting old" which can all be wrapped up in two words: "Bottom Line."
I have never disliked Cruise's on-screen work-not brilliant but consider his performance in Magnolia and Collateral- and I am a firm believer in what one does off-screen away from work is one's own business. Many folks tend to disagree with me and seem to enjoy flinging stones in his direction. Oh well. He will land on his feet and maybe concentrate on the art of acting which is what got him where he is in the first place. I doubt it but you never know. His partner Wagner claims they are setting up their own company a la Weinstein Broths. (yahoo)

the thing is, his movies are NOT losing money - not by a long shot. i tend to believe that this really is about ego, they just dont like the fact that he promotes his beliefs. either way, the way ol\' sumner handled seemed petty.

and to add to above, cruise is a bonafide star, he has a huge dvoted following around the world - this will only serve to motivate him to come up with a huge movie.

Yea, I agree. But age tends to relegate superstars to smaller roles and hence, smaller celebrity. The nature of the biz I suppose. Name one star who has aged gracefully in the last twenty five years??
Harrison Ford..? Not really. Ummm..I am at a loss.
