DIY Underwater Housing for Cams

2006-Jul-11 by Laughcalvin

Hey Eric or Bill, want to make your own underwaterhousing for your DV Cam for about $70? Very cool if you are mechanically-bent.

Scuba housings are not cheap to buy, but they are cheap to build. Home Depot parts + internet mail order + time = Housing for about $70 worth of parts. Start your cam recording, seal it in the housing, edit later.

This one has been down to 92 feet salt water and has made a total of 6 repeat dives with open/close cycles in between. In other words, I didn't just get lucky.

Quick video clip I made (the quality is not indicative because I compressed the heck out of it):

By the way, we also plan to use this at the beach and in the pool. Enjoy!
(thanks Paul)

i had actually seen that article a little while back. it's definitely something i was interested in doing. i've only been snorkeling off catalina, but it was fascinating - to get it on film would be cool. or better yet, film an underwater scene at that locale. only thing right now, is my current lifestyle would prohibit me from using it, so maybe in the future.

An underwater scene would be very cool. We await the day when the sun is once again your friend.
