Born Into This

2006-Jun-2 by Laughcalvin

Just got finished watching Bukowski: Born Into This and boy oh boy, did it give me a shot in the as-arm. Filmmaker John Dullaghan did a great job capturing the spirit of Hank, warts and all. From The Post Office to Hollywood, to the beatings, the misunderstood misogyny, to Mickey Rourke, wonderful stuff that inspires the creative heart; despite all the bruises and baggage. Highly, highly reccomended. One part that especially stood out was the words on Art: "When the spirit dies, form begins."

Sublime.

And on that note, I'm off to Friday night adventures that may or may not inspire fodder for the next project. Hank, I will raise my first glass very, very high to you. RIP Sensei.

Bukowski could be and was called many things' misogynist, alcoholic, crazy but if you read his work and listen to him speak about art, dishonest was NOT one of them. Maybe he's the most honest American Writer to come down the pipeline..?
