Munich

2005-Dec-20 by Laughcalvin

As I got older I began to think of Spielberg and his movies as a mixed-bag. "Slips too easily to sentimentality" I would tell people. With Munich he has really dug deeper into the story and has seen how complex it can be. What happens? He is getting bloodied for it by the likes of Peter Bart, David Brooks, and the Israeli Ambassador in LA, just to name a few. These guys seem to suggest that where you stand on the Israeli-Palistinian Conflict or the larger War on Terror will dictate if you should even see the film or not, which is utter bullshit. A film should be allowed to fall or stand on its own. Having said that,Spielberg is a very smart man and I have to scratch my head a bit over why he went out on a limb now by saying the War on Terror just might be gray, as opposed to black and white. At any rate, I'm gonna go see Munich, Variety be damned.

It was technically, per usuall Spielberg film, excellent but I did have a problem with the pacing. Message-wise, right on target, but he did drag the end out abit too long. Eric Bana was very good but not the best actor Maybe the guy who played the antique dealer..? Rush was good in the small moments; very good.
