Hard Candy
2006-Apr-13 by Laughcalvin
The film is about a 32 year-old man who takes home a 14 year-old girl home he met on the internet and something happens that you don't quiet expect. Director David Slade talks to Filmmaker Magazine's Scott Macaulay about the script, filmmaking, and values:
"So, Nicholas Roeg was the man who made me want to become a director, and [Hard Candy] is a script Roeg would have done, a harrowing relationship story with many, many subtexts, with questions that can’t be answered unless you answer them yourself and don’t tell anybody. I think that in this climate, right now, a film that can make the audience ask themselves a question is important.
Filmmaker: And what do you think that question is?
Slade: I would say this film asks you to acutely evaluate what your prejudices are."
I absolutely agree. Check out the partial interview on-line and the full one soon. Check out the film as well. Brian Nelson wrote the script.

The trailer looks interesting. The first question it makes me ask is, do I really want to see this movie? Having a daughter myself, the concept scares the piss out of me. I think there will be alot of old fat and bald men alone in the theaters.

That's the prejudice in us all. She is a monster as is the pedophile for she wants to attack and murder him for his sickness. Human, all to human you say..? So is a sickness, no? Niether are human; both are monsters and I know that sounds relativist but it is true, no?
