Man Push Cart

North Carolina native Ramin Bahrani talks about the making of Man Push Cart and the challenges of making indie films. Go here to read the fine article.

It seems the main character's task is a Sisyphus-like endeavor. While the filmmaker's (or any indy filmmaker for that matter) endeavoring to make and distribute it is like pushing that boulder up the mountain as well.

It's tough no doubt. I can't wait to see how Sujewa does DIY dist. of his film "Date Number One." He sent a screener copy for HIT to review. BTW, is 30 Something Productions gonna go the Fest. route?

Also- they're planning on screening the film at Paramount on May 9th. Don't know how many guests we'll be able to bring yet.

Hey LC,
Good link, good interview. Looking forward to seeing Man Push Cart.
Still messing w/ Date Number One editing over here. But you should be able to see it this weekend.
I too am interested in seeing how I do w/ self-distribution :)
I don't see self-distribution as an epic struggle though, just something that needs to get done, all a part of being an indie filmmaker. In DC I've produced about 50 screenings from '92 - '04, it was not that difficult, nor was it too expensive. I think the key is to have a good movie to show & to do TONS of publicity (the free kind, it's more affordable). Also, I love the idea of no/low budget self-distribution, something I got from being a fan of DIY/Punk rockers.
Later on, back to editing.

And to (maybe badly) quote one of those DIY rock bands:
"we created it, start it over,
We started it, start another,
(something, something) in the image of its owner,
hot chocolate, hot choclate city, yeah,
hot chocolate, hot chocolate city, yeah!

album: Plays Pretty For Baby, (1992?)
(song title?)
record lable: Dischord

S,
Your punk DIYD aesthetic is gonna serve you well. Hence, it is not a boulder that will roll back down the mountain again. The best movments throughout history seem to be the ones that enjoy doing IT more than the reaping the benefits from IT.
Does that make sense..?

Yup, I understand. I think in order to do anything well you need some strong motivation - such as thoroughly enjoying the work. In about a year we'll see how all this theory translated into practice. Talk to you soon, hope u have an excellent Valnetines Day.
