Masher
2007-Jun-28 by Laughcalvin
I have been mulling over what short film project to make next, even as I keep my eye on the eventual goal of making a micro-budgeted feature film in the future. Laughcalvin, our film collective, has made three short projects to date and I feel we learned more and more on each subsequent film. Editing this site and working on other filmmaker's projects has afforded me the opportunity to learn about many, many filmmakers and their work, often even interviewing the writers, directors, producers, DIY Distributors, etc. to learn what to do and what not to do.
With that in mind, our new short film script is ready. It is tentatively titled "Masher" and the logline is: "Fetish? Your psychiatrist doesn't think so." It's only about 7 pages so pop on over here and give it a read (in proper format!) and let me know what you think, up or down.
When we begin pre-production, we will have a page blogging the progress of the film from start to finish.
Until then!

Hey Jerry,
Not a bad script overall. Parts of it were funny but I felt (personally) it needs more development. I realize you only have a short time to do it but that's where the pin-point razor sharp dialogue comes into play.
By the way, thanks for the mention about the book. I am nervous as hell.
Good Luck on the movie.

I totally understand your concerns. My goal is to develop the characters visually through action; specifically through facial and body interplay to give it more intimacy, maybe even emotional depth.
Even though it's a comedy I want to show Bernie's real fear of normal interaction and the psychiatrist's genuine understanding of Bernie (she's been there) and her real desire to help him.
I am planning on going over it again to see if I can 'razor' it for an even closer shave.
Thanks,
JB

hey JB,
before my PDF program brought my computer to a grinding hault, I read 2 pages of the script & liked what I read - reminded me of the drugstore robbery scene from Drugstore Cowboy.
will print out the script at work this week & read it all & comment on it.
however, regardless of what me or others say, if you really like the script & think there is an audience for it, you should definitely, definitely make it.

Drugstore Cowboy? Holy Cow! That reference took me back! I can send you a final draft version if you like??
Regardless, it's a blackish comedy.
