Around the Dial

2007-Apr-11 by Laughcalvin

- Patric Verrone, president of The Writers Guild of America West, invokes Lewis Carrol in the NYTs in his coming fight for Hollywood Screenwriters: "Mr. Verrone will come face to face with the beast in its corporate form this July, as his union and its East Coast counterpart begin what are expected to be exceedingly difficult negotiations with the conglomerates that own the networks and studios."  Calloo Callay indeed! Any comparisons to Baseball Strikes will be swiftly and viciously dealt with. Most screenwriters never see a million dollars in one season.

- "These people are not my friends, and I am not excited by their movies. I would rather watch "CSI: Des Moines" than sit through another self-absorbed, meandering, unfocused film by one of these male, heterosexual, Caucasian rich kids." Multi-hyphenate Michael Tully on the Mumblecore 'Film Movement.'

- What's in your boob tube pipeline? Maybe you don't want to know. Via the LATimes:

Think "Cavemen" on ABC (yes, based on the popular Geico ads); "I'm With Stupid," about disabled people, on NBC; a heart-warming relationship between an American child and a Pakistani exchange student on "Aliens in America" on the CW; three siblings best described as "The Beverly Hillbillies" meets "The Swan" on "Stumps of Hollywood" on CBS; and Lee Majors playing himself in Fox's "Me & Lee?" the single-camera tale of Majors' obsession with bionics since "The Six Million Dollar Man" went off the air.

Good to see The Bionic Man finding work again. Sigh...

And finally, Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss and Kelly Osbourne ban together to help each other stay sober. What could possibly go wrong?
