Donovan Slacks World Premier
2007-Mar-20 by Laughcalvin
UK/US independent feature film 'Donovan Slacks' is to have its World
Premiere in competition at the upcoming International Film Festival of
Uruguay (Mar 24 - Apr 8, 2007).
Shot half as a 1920s-style silent film, half as a 'talkie', mixing both
Super-8 film and DV, this experimental feature has now received backing
from Screen South and the UK Film Council.
Set in 1920s England, Donovan Slacks tells the story of a hospital
patient who discovers the bitter truth about his past and leads a
fishermen's uprising against the government.
Half-Iranian, half-English first-time director, Kivmars Bowling,
welcomed the start of the film's festival run as a huge step forward
for the small, indie production.
"Donovan Slacks was made on an extremely limited budget over several
years and it's great to see it now enter the festival circuit. It was
a massive undertaking – to make a period drama with a cast of over 75
actors, involving vintage cars, trains, bathing machines, cliff stunts,
and battle scenes. But, because we made it as a genuine community film,
it all came together."
