- The New York Film Critics Circle naming "United 93" by Paul Greengrass as its choice for best picture, while the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) bestowed their top prize to Clint Eastwood's "Letters from Iwo Jima." In the best director category, however, the L.A. critics cited Greengrass for best director ("United 93") while New York gave the honor to Martin Scorsese for "The Departed." I have not seen "Letters from Iwo Jima" yet but I agree with the "United 93 choice. I don't agree with giving Scorsese best director for a dadgum remake.
- "I haven't had a drink in seven days. Or anything. I'm not even legal to, so why would I?" *****, 20, told PEOPLE. "I don't drink when I go to clubs. I drink with my friends at home, but there's no need to. I feel better not drinking. It's more fun. I have Red Bull.." Guess who?
- Jeff Wells goes off on another wayward starlett:
"If I were the presiding judge in the Nicole Ritchie driving-the- wrong-way-on-the-134 case, that dumb cooze would get 90 days in jail followed by a 60-day forced rehab under lock and key. No discussion ...that's it. If I'd been in L.A. I could have been been on the 134 and had a head-on collision; ditto one of my sons. I don't care if I sound like a right-winger -- she's dangerous trash, a menace, a public enemy."
