Bubble All at Once

Soderbergh's film Bubble, a little oddity about folks working in a babydoll factory, will be released simultaneuously on DVD, pay-per-view, and in theaters by gazillionaire Mark Cuban's company 2929 Entertainment. This sounds like a great thing for indie filmmakers as it provides more platforms to show their work with hopefully less risk for distributors. Of course, theater owners are none too pleased, but what about you the viewers? Would you like your filmed entertainment available all at once? Will you stop going to the theaters even though they are serving cocktails in recliners now? Chime in Folks! (Via BoingBoing)

As a viewer I'm less likely to go see a film at the theater if it's available on DVD. The only way I chose otherwise is if I'm in the film or a good friend or it's the Apocalypse Now Redux at the Imax. If the film's an indie it would have to be something I'm really anticipating to see it at the cinema in lieu of on my couch.
As an indie filmmaker- I don't know. I guess we'll have to see whether these Soderbergh experiments pay off. One thing's for sure- with this sort of marketing blitz, I'd think there are a lot more people who will see it somehow that would not have had it been released in the traditional way. I can'ttell you how many movies I thought about seeing in the past but then forgot. A movie released in multiple ways, however, is something that strikes the memory (even that of an addle-minded individual).
